A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Crew Dragon spacecraft with astronauts aboard from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 3:50am ET on Friday. SpaceX announced the change late Thursday via X, formerly Twitter, without revealing the reason.

In SpaceX’s post on X, they have rescheduled the launch for Saturday, August 26 at 3:27 am. As stated by NASA spokesperson Rob Navias, the need to complete certain administrative tasks prompted the decision to delay the launch of Crew-7 by 24 hours. This slight postponement aims to ensure the meticulous completion of all necessary paperwork.

Weather forecasts from the US Space Force, which supervises rocket launches, predict a high likelihood of favorable conditions for Saturday’s launch.

The Crew-7 Team

Crew-7, composed of four accomplished astronauts, is set to embark on the mission. The team is led by Nasa’s Jasmin Moghbeli, who is the commanding officer. Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen, Satoshi Furukawa from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Konstantin Borisov representing Roscosmos are joining her.

Crew-7 Mission and Goals

With this mission, NASA will integrate the Crew-7 astronauts with its existing team aboard the International Space Station, marking the eighth mission under the commercial crew program. The Crew-7 astronauts will take over operational responsibilities from their predecessors, the SpaceX Crew-6 astronauts, over a five-day period.

In 2020, SpaceX launched its first crewed mission, which led to the creation of this collaborative program. SpaceX and NASA have collaborated on numerous successful missions since then. As a result, these collaborations have culminated in this ongoing effort to expand human presence in space.

SpaceX and NASA have experienced an unforeseen delay in their collaborative mission Crew-7. The rescheduled launch aims to provide additional time for meticulous preparations, ensuring the safety and success of the astronauts set to join the International Space Station on their significant journey.
