PTI's Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat allegedly arrested outside LHC

PTI’s Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat allegedly arrested outside LHC

According to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sher Afzal Marwat, the PTI’s Senior Vice President, arrested outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) by uniformed officials. Marwat was dragged by the collar by officers in a video released by PTI on X, while numerous attorneys attempted to intercede.

PTI called the incident a “abduction,” calling it “absolutely shameful” and demonstrating those in power’s disrespect for the courts. During Marwat’s recovery, the party requested the LHC judges to ensure his safety.

PTI criticized the detention in a separate statement, calling it a manifestation of prevalent lawlessness and the fear of those in power.

While the reason for Marwat’s arrest is unknown, he allegedly arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order ordinance, according to reports.

Last week, PTI’s Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat accused the police of attempting to kidnap him, and the Peshawar High Court ordered the KP government not to detain him until further notice in four recent cases filed against him.

Criticism from PTI’s Leaders:

PTI officials, including Gohar Khan and Omar Ayub Khan, criticized the detention, accusing the federal government of moral bankruptcy and denouncing the caretaker government.

Ali Muhammad Khan of the PTI criticized Marwat’s “uncalled for arrest” and requested that he let go immediately. “The election date had already announced.” “Everyone should have an equal opportunity to participate in political activities,” he stated.

PTI’s Taimur Jhagra condemned the detention, asking, “What exactly is going on???”

Sher Afzal Marwat became PTI Senior Vice President last month and rose to prominence during the party’s crisis following the May 9 incidents. Marwat represented the PTI leader in the Toshakhana case, in which the former premier got a sentence to three years in prison.

A case filed against him in Dera Ismail Khan in October for allegedly inciting the public against governmental institutions via social media.
