In response to graft accusations, the NAB Rawalpindi has named Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi as defendants in this case. Sohail Arif, the prosecutor, joined by Investigation Officer Mohsin Haroon as he formally delivered the reference to the registrar office for further legal proceedings.
This comes on the basis of the accountability court’s recent decision to reject the NAB’s request for an extended physical detention of Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case. The court chose judicial remand for the former PTI chairman for 21 days, marking a critical turning point in the legal procedures. The next hearing is set for January 6th.
The allegations focus on Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi allegedly retaining presents collected during official visits to foreign countries while Khan was prime minister.
Contrary to the authorized practice of depositing these gifts in the Toshakhana, the couple faces the claim of keeping them and contributing to the national treasury an amount less than the stipulated value.
Bushra Bibi, in specific, faces the charge of keeping different valuable items given to her as gifts during official visits. A locket, rings, ear tips, bracelets, and a diamond-studded gold necklace are among the retained items.
Despite NAB’s repeated requests for the return of these presents, particularly the jewelry, Bushra allegedly ignored. In response, the NAB summoned her to their Rawalpindi office on December 11, emphasizing the importance of bringing the specified ornaments.
Bushra got bail in this matter by the accountability court in Islamabad till December 13.
