Inzamam-ul-Haq Resigns as Chief Selector of Pakistan Cricket Team

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector of Pakistan’s men’s cricket team, made a decision that has shocked the cricketing world. He publicly resigned from this respected job on Monday, citing reasons linked to an issue involving a player’s management organization affiliated with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The decision follows unconfirmed media reports that Inzamam-ul-Haq has an involvement in a player’s management organization linked to the PCB. According to these reports, several major players, including Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, had connection to this particular company.

Inzamam-ul-Haq decided to act after media reports raised concerns about the transparency of the team selecting process.

In an interview with SAMAA TV’s ‘Zor Ka Jor,’ he revealed that after learning of the charges, he immediately approached the PCB, pressing them to launch an investigation.

A five-member committee formed to investigate the claims at his request, and it came in response to these developments that Inzamam-ul-Haq elected to resign as chief selector.

He stated his willingness to work with the PCB once the investigation concluded.

Inzamam-ul-Haq stated in his statement that stepping down reflected the nature of his work when faced with such concerns.

He discussed the emotional toll of false allegations and emphasized the significance of gathering evidence before reaching conclusions. After a brilliant 20-year cricket career for Pakistan, he expressed his disappointment when such allegations surfaced.

Furthermore, Inzamam-ul-Haq stated that he had no connections to the player’s management company, Saya Corporation. The PCB has extensive data on these companies, as they are approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Following this, the Pakistan Cricket Board set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate the reported conflict of interest. As soon as possible, the PCB will review the committee’s conclusions and take any required action.

In addition, Inzamam-ul-Haq has previously served as chief selector in 2016, ending his three-year term in 2019.

His resignation also coincides with harsh criticism of the national team’s performance at the World Cup, as they lost four straight games after triumphs against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka.

The cricketing world will keep watching closely to see how these developments influence Pakistan cricket’s future and the continuing dispute.
