Pakistan urges UN to take proactive steps for cease-fire in Gaza.

Finally, In the midst of escalating tensions in Gaza, Pakistan is urging the United Nations (UN) to take a proactive stance in facilitating a much-needed cease-fire to address the deteriorating humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s “indiscriminate and disproportionate” use of force.

Today’s news briefing in Islamabad, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, stressed the importance of this.

She emphasized the need of the international community working together to achieve a fair, comprehensive, and long-term two-state solution.

This should open the way for the creation of a contiguous Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds as its capital.

Baloch highlighted that without such a solution, peace in the Middle East remains impossible.

She called for an urgent cease of hostilities too.

In addition, Baloch highlighted the impact of nearly seven decades of illegal foreign occupation, hostility, and disdain for international law in highlighting the fundamental roots of the ongoing cycle of aggression and violence.

This contains UN Security Council resolutions supporting the Palestinian people’s fundamental right to self-determination.

Pakistan has voiced grave worry about Gaza’s rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation. The brutal embargo and collective punishment imposed by Israeli forces have exacerbated the situation.

Baloch referred to Israel’s “total siege” of Gaza, which has kept food and fuel from reaching the 2.3 million residents

Consequently, Tensions in the Middle East have soared as a result of a military attack undertaken by Hamas within Israeli territory.

First, Hamas conducted Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, a multi-pronged surprise offensive that comprised rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel.

This was in response to the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, as well as the rising aggression of Israeli settlers against Palestinians.

Then Israel replied by launching Operation Swords of Iron, which targeted Hamas within the Gaza Strip.

The consequences have included the cessation of water and electrical supplies to Gaza, increasing the already difficult living conditions in a region that has been under a punishing siege since 2007.

As the situation in Gaza worsens, Pakistan asks the UN to take the lead in establishing a much-needed cease-fire and working for a long-term solution that secures peace and security in the region.
