PCB’s selection committee

PCB appointed Former Cricketers as member of Selection Committee

Former cricketers Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, and Rao Iftikhar Anjum appointed as the members of Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee. This change is part of a larger management upheaval that has seen Babar Azam removed as captain, Mohammad Hafeez assume coaching duties, and Wahab Riaz take on the job of chief selector.

The newly created selection committee, under by head selector Wahab Riaz, expects to offer an extensive amount of cricketing knowledge to its decision-making processes.

Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, and Rao Iftikhar Anjum will all play important roles in defining Pakistan cricket’s future.

According to PCB press release, the three former cricketers have taken their roles on the selection panel immediately. In addition to selection duties, former players might receive allocated extra responsibilities, such as conducting skills camps.

Moreover, their first assignment is a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which will begin on January 12, 2024.

Kamran Akmal played 53 Tests, 157 ODIs, and 58 T20Is throughout his 15-year career, which lasted from 2002 to 2017. He smashed 6,871 runs across all formats and 453 dismissals behind the stumps. He also the part of 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup-winning team.

Rao Iftikhar Anjum took 78 international wickets while playing a Test, 62 ODIs, and two T20Is from 2004 to 2010. He also a member of the team that won the T20 World Cup in 2009.

The former Test captain Salman Butt played for Pakistan in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs, and 24 Twenty20 Internationals. Butt scored 5,209 runs in his career, including 11 international centuries. He played a key role in winning 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The PCB’s commitment to establishing a robust and knowledgeable cricketing environment can be seen by this purposeful reconfiguration of the selection committee. The trio’s different backgrounds will likely to contribute significantly to decision-making processes, influencing Pakistan cricket’s future trajectory.
