On Monday, the Special Court (Official Secrets Act) issued letters to the superintendent of Adiala Jail over the alleged failure to arrange a phone contact between PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his sons.
Imran Khan’s legal ordeal began after he found guilty in the Toshakhana case.
Despite the fact that his sentence suspended on August 9, he remained in jail due to his judicial remand in the cipher case. The cipher case revolves around a diplomatic paper that Imran Khan lost in his possession.
According to the PTI, this paper contained a threat from the US to depose Imran from power.
On October 23, the former prime minister faced charges in this case, along with his assistant Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is currently in jail.
The special court last week allowed on Imran Khan’s request to call his children every Saturday.
However, PTI lawyer Sheraz Ahmed Ranjha said in the complaint filed today that the Adiala Jail superintendent failed to comply with the court’s order.
“The respondent has willfully, deliberately, and intentionally violated the order of the honorable court,” according to the petition, highlighting the necessity to commence contempt of court proceedings against the jail official.
The petition also asked for an immediate phone contact between Imran Khan and his sons.
After reviewing the petition, Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain issued notifications to the superintendent of the Adiala Jail demanding the responses. The hearing postponed until November 8.
In other legal proceeding, Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) postponed the hearing on Imran’s bail petition in a case involving violence and vandalism that happened in the country on May 9. The prosecutor’s absence appeared as the reason for the adjournment.
